After 10 years of unstoppable activity on all kinds of stages, Seward have crafted a vibrating sonic manifesto, drawing upon the multiple dimensions of their free song performances. Known by their intense, delicate, and theatrical live shows across the world, they will be celebrating their 10th anniversary in 2020 with a tour de force, new collaborators, and a new record, their 5th now.
Seward gathers traditional percussion & experimental drums, a distorted banjo on effects, two dynamic & singular voices, free guitars, manipulated sounds, keyboards, electronics & all types of horns played through pedals. The band consists of members from Venezuela, Argentina, Catalunya, and Spain. Their shows change every day and can take place anytime, anywhere. A Seward show can turn magnetically crazy at a music festival, it can consist of an orchestral improvisation or a popular feast cooked by the band while they play. It can turn into 7 concerts in a day into a walk through the city with their audience… It can become a live soundtrack of a movie, an art installation, a dance, theatre, performance, or poetry show.
Texan producer Matt Pence (Midlake, John Grant, American Music Club…) has been one of the long-term companions of the band in all their records, four “single live take recording” albums where all songs are written, composed, produced, arranged & performed live by Seward. The band has also collaborated with artists such as Scott Solter (producer of St. Vincent or Dirty Projectors), Spanish hip hop legend R de Rumba and other musicians like Will Johnson or Suso Saiz.
“Combustible avant-folk anarchy from Catalonia. Miles off the mainstream musical map, Barcelona quartet Seward make a ragged and impassioned racket that borders on outsider art” – Stephen Dalton, Uncut Magazine
“This is the band you will never forget, and if you join their space, you will want to go back again and again and again” – Michal Kašcák, Pohoda Festival
“A breath of fresh air” – Vic Galloway, BBC Radio
“People write manifestos proclaiming themselves as alternative visionaries, but achieve nothing close to the unpredictable, eccentrically cohesive whole that Seward whip up” – Sam Briggs, Line Of Best Fit
“One of a kind band. Original and authentic” – Ivan Milivojev, Exit Festival
“Jazz, rock’n’roll, folk picking, punk gang vocals and chain gang hollers colliding with singer-songwriter nakedness then floating off on Godspeed style sonic journeys. My favorite band. We need to demand them to come back as they are amazing live, really amazing” – John Kennedy, Rockfeedback & XFM Radio
